Swabian-Alemannic Fastnacht

One or two may express the wish to escape the Rhenish carnival. However, jesters are excellently catered for at Lake Constance from 6 January until Ash Wednesday – as enjoyers of the UNESCO cultural heritage.

Not only is each jester different, but also the history of each place – and in some cases the masks and carnival costumes are passed on from generation to generation. Formerly, festivals were held to use up perishable food before Lent. And the winter was driven away with the time-honoured masks and the sound of the horns.

Fastnacht is definitely one of the cultural highlights of the wintertime. The centuries-old tradition is brought to life again every year. Any of the numerous fools’ parades and fools’ activities, which differ from place to place, in the four countries at Lake Constance are unsurpassable and impressive. Please refer to the fool timetable for all important information.
Fastnacht in the Lake Constance region is unique.
Take a look at our menu for Ash Wednesday in our restaurant Maier and let the Fasnet fade away with pleasure.
