We are now launching table-service breakfast. Come and discover our great selection of top-quality, freshly prepared local produce: we have something for everyone. We believe the buffet has had its time – and not only because the coronavirus pandemic requires new distancing measures, and queues, self-service and free movement around the dining area are to be avoided. In fact, we have never been fans of the buffet free-for-all. That is why breakfast with us is now even better.
Our choice of products and suppliers is all about animal welfare, additive-free processing, excellent quality standards, and of course amazing flavour. We work primarily with family-run local businesses. For example, our cheese comes from the Allgäu and is made from organic hay milk (Heumilch). Our meat and sausages are supplied by Fairfleisch in Überlingen and the Lake Constance butcher Otto Müller, which the "Feinschmecker" gourmet magazine has repeatedly listed as one of the best butchers in Germany. Our Lake Constance breakfast is all about quality and sustainability as we seek to support local suppliers.
Why we don't like breakfast buffets
Despite the ostensible advantage of endless choice, the downsides were clear: guests constantly on the move to fetch their food and drinks, and cheese and sausages that were either sweaty or dry. Cheap breakfasts meant cheap products: instant scrambled eggs; ESL milk from the discount store; enzyme-rich part-baked rolls with treacle instead of rye flour; basic, boring jams with a low fruit content; sausages from industrial-scale meat processing plants produced under poor working conditions and low animal welfare standards... the list of ways to reduce quality is endless. What is more, huge amounts of food had to be discarded, as leftovers from the buffet table cannot be kept. That is not our idea of responsibility or respect.
We believe in the perfect breakfast
Hotel guests can add breakfast when they book their room, but you can also make your choice when you get here. There are currently four breakfasts to choose from:
- Traditional breakfast with sausage, cheese, spread, fresh fruit and yoghurt.
- The Allgäu breakfast with extra cheese and fresh buttermilk.
- A meat special with sausage, ham, fried eggs and bacon, and
- A sweet breakfast with yeast pastry, a croissant, honey from Lake Constance and organic chocolate spread.
New additions will be coming soon: the lakeside breakfast, the healthy energy breakfast, a vegetarian choice and a vegan option. These will be on the menu by early July at the latest. You can also put together your own breakfast, choosing just what you want.
Breakfast out: why not?
All other guests and hungry visitors are of course also welcome to join us for breakfast. Why not arrange breakfast with friends, a cosy breakfast with your closest family, a business breakfast with clients or business partners, or breakfast out just because – because it's one of those days and you simply fancy eating at Maier's.
Breakfast is served at the following times:
- Monday to Friday: 07:00 to 10:30
- Weekends and public holidays: 07:00 to 11:00
We would ask both hotel guests and visitors to let us know in advance when you would like to breakfast, and reserve a table. Current social distancing rules mean space is a little limited at the moment. Please also book in advance for breakfast on our terrace (open from mid-July 2020).
We are happy to set up a separate area for you and your guests to breakfast in by prior arrangement – please simply contact us to discuss details and prices.
Our products and suppliers
We are committed to ensuring uncompromising quality in everything we serve our guests, and that is what guides our choice of products and suppliers. That choice is all about animal welfare, additive-free processing, excellent quality standards, and of course amazing flavour. Our suppliers are primarily small-scale producers, often family-run, and always top quality.
Taste the difference with excellent dairy products
Our cheese comes from the Allgäu and is made from hay milk or "Heumilch". Zurwies organic dairy in Wangen supplies our deliciously aromatic organic soft cheese and organic yoghurt. Our butter is churned from sour cream at Bauhofer dairy in Bodnegg, which is also one of our hard cheese suppliers. The rest of our hard cheese comes from Lindenberg. All these products are genuine delicacies.
We only use Allgäu organic hay milk with a natural fat content of 3.8 %, a high-quality and highly nutritious natural product (containing for example calcium and vitamins A, D and E). Local supply and careful processing guarantee maximum freshness.
Meat from our trusted suppliers
Our meats and sausages are supplied by Fairfleisch in Überlingen and the Lake Constance butcher Otto Müller, which the "Feinschmecker" gourmet magazine has repeatedly listed as one of the best butchers in Germany. We seek to source from local farmers from the Lake Constance region, and look closely at animal welfare standards and feed practices.
Fruit and veg: high quality local produce
Our apples, berries and stoned fruits are supplied by Fahr in Fischbach and Pfleghaar in Markdorf. The Fahr fruit farm is right on the edge of Fischbach. Why not head in for a visit to the Fahr Family farm shop.
Our vegetables and salad greens come from Reichenau, Höri and Upper Swabia. Like us, all our vegetable suppliers are members of the "Gutes vom See" Lake Constance sustainability scheme and meet our strict quality standards. In winter, we serve winter salads and the little-known but absolutely delicious purslane.
Our fruit spreads and honey come from Baden. The artisan fruit spreads have a fruit content of over 60 % and are produced in small quantities, boiled in copper pans and stirred by hand. Our children have tried them all – and love them all.
Bread: artisan quality, additive-free
Forget industrial products and ready mixes; think natural sourdough and artisan quality. This is the motto followed by Fabian and André Kloos in their bakery. We are supplied with fresh rolls, loaves, baguettes and cake from the bakery in Friedrichshafen-Stockerholz every day.
